Experimental film
Presenting experimental film requires the projectionist to expand their awareness of the medium just as much (if not more) than the viewer.
- Often small gauge
- Variable speed?
- Prepping for programs of shorts (keeping careful track of "last image" and whether or not there's sound)
- Awareness of the desires of the filmmaker: do they want a silent track played with sound? Are there notes on or in the can?
- Dual projection
- Lack of frame lines
- Projecting the leader or not? (cf. lostleaders.ca)
- Focus complications
- tell film base from emulsion
